Jennifer Crocker is Professor of Psychology and Research Professor at the Research Center for Group Dynamics, Institute for Social Research, at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on self-esteem, contingencies of self-worth, and the costs of pursing self-esteem as a goal. Current research examines two motivational frameworks for the self: the egosystem, driven by the desire to maintain, enhance, and protect self-esteem; and the ecosystem, driven by the goal to contribute to something larger than or outside the self. Her research is supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation. Her research and teaching have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Gordon Allport Prize for the best paper in Intergroup Relations, and a Career Development Award from the National Institute of Mental Health.
