Since its establishment in 1948, the Research Center for Group Dynamics' mission has been to advance the understanding of human behavior in social contexts; making clear the linkages between an individual's psychological life and the life of the society to which the individual belongs.

  • The Univ. of Michigan News Service features Brad Bushman's research in article "Playing video games for better, not worse" and podcast.
  • Dick Nisbett has been named the 2010 Henry Russel Lectureship winner.
  • In anticipation of President Obama's middle east trip, the following article appeared in Newsweek magazine. It refers to research by Scott Atran (RCGD Adjunct Research Scientist).
  • The University of Michigan has awarded Jacque Eccles a Distinguished Univ. Professorship.
  • Stephanie Brown article, "Caregiving Behavior is Associated with Decreased Mortality Risk", was recently published in Psychological Science (April 2009).
  • RCGD's Norbert Schwarz, along with research Peter Ubel, recently spoke with Parenting Magazine about how mothers can increase their happiness by reconsidering priorities and getting enough sleep.
  • Jim Wessel, ISR Assistant Director from 1969-1995, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009.
  • Research by Randy Nesse is highlighted in Science Magazine article, "Darwin Applies to Medical School."
  • Researchers Mary Rigdon and Shinobu Kitayama's soon to be published work is highlighted in an article, "Brother Can You Spare a Dime?" at Scientific Blogging. Their research article will be appear in Journal of Economic Psychology.
  • Norbert Schwarz recently received the Wilhelm Wundt-Williams James Award for 2009.
